Cim Leaky Pen

What does it do. I brought some last Saturday and I can only get it to go brown. Its quite a nice brown but it would be nice if I could get it to do something else.

Sounds like you are reducing it. If you are using small canisters of propane and not a large tank (orange bottle - 3.9kg is minimum quantity) on a hothead you are going to find it very difficult not to reduce this glass. Try melting it carefully at the very top of your torch and then layer it over white, where you will see its true beauty.
If you are using little canisters of propane you'll find that larger bottles work much better. Get a bulk adaptor for your hothead, it works much better.

I am on bulk, I'm using 13kg tins as my back will tell you from carrying one in from the car through the house and 100yrds down the garden this morning

Why isn't my gas man open on Saturdays when Tim is here.

ok then - guess you need to work a little higher in the flame and maybe a little cooler.
I use the 6kg bottles - then I can hump them around without a fella.
I get mine from a tool hire place but you can also exchange them at Texaco and places like that - you don't have to get them from where you originally bought them which means you can get them on Saturday.

Yes thats very true Sal. Thing is when it runs out, I just can't wait until the next Saturday I have to have it now or I start to come out in a sweat and grow purple spots on my face.

kate i've used leaky pen on your torch and it stays a lovely navy blue, i don't think i did anything different to normal either...

It may be worth checking your torch - I had this problem on my HH in Oz and found that creatures and dust were getting into the torch and making the flame mucky. I got into the habit of unscrewing the top bit and shaking it before using. It could also be that your propane is a bit mucky from being moved about and it may just settle down.

No it must be me, I've made three beads this morning with the torch, low, high in the flame and as normal like I usually do and they all have streaky brown marks all over them, I've done all three of these over white and I cleaned the glass well first so I will chuck it gently to one side and come back to it another time.
