I know some people have had compatibility issues, and against my better judgement used CIM cranberry to make a bead yesterday.  Only 4 small dots on each end, over a base of Kugler pink and with two orange trans dots and then swirled.

Just after I took this photo, compitability cracks began to appear, crazing across the top of the glass.  I'm pretty peeved as I was halfway through listing it!
So, those who have had problems before, did you contact CIM, and if so, what was the answer.  Since if it can't even be used in less than frit amounts, there doesn't seem much point in buying it.  I wasted a hell of a lot of dichro on this bead  :(

What a shame Sue, beautiful bead.  I do hope you find out about this, what a terrible waste. :( xx

jammie

Acht, really pretty too!

Helen G has spent hours working out the do's and don'ts of cranberry. She might be able to help...shame as it was a rather lovely bead

It could be the Kugler that is causing the problems.  This has compatibility issues when used with other makes of glass.  :( You are best just to use it with other Kugler glass.   :( :(

Sorry to hear that Sue, it's such a lovely bead too.

Could be - I'll give it a go with desert pink instead.  Shame, I particularly like this shade ...  I still think I'll go with rubino though!

Sue, I feel your pain too! Same happened to me recently. I put rod width ribbons of CIM Cranberry on top of beads I'd made using Eff. transparents, thinking as it is sitting on the top of the glass, there would be no problems. Well, they ended up a complete mess, cracking wise. I think I'll take some photos to show here too. I am pretty peeved as they were 3 big focal beads. I can't honestly agree that CIM cranberry can be described as 'Compatible' with coe 104 glass if this happens. I too was thinking of contacting CIM. I think maybe we should do so as a collective, maybe we'll get some answers.

I think that's a good idea Bev - if we can produce a kind of 'gallery of doom' involving CIM cranberry beads, I'm pretty sure Kathy Seamans will do something about it, she's really good about getting back to us customers anyway, and the more information she has to work on the better.  I think I will remake this bead identically just changing the pink, to see if it definitely is the cranberry, but I'm pretty sure it is.

Sue is ther Dichroic Glass in that lovely bead you made? It looks like there is on my screen. If so do you think it's that, that's caused the cracking? :)

Trudi

Ouch, such a pretty bead too x I only ever bought one rod of cranberry and while it was fine I just couldn't justify the cost over rubino!

I'm sure if you contact Kathy she'll be able to help!

No the cracking isn't over the dichro, only on the ends where the cranberry is, and it's crazing on the surface - the body of the bead doesn't contain any cranberry and it's fine.
I'll definitely contact Kathy tomorrow, if anybody else wants me to include their photos in the email, and their bead recipes, I'll pass them on.

I think I have chucked all the ones that crazed on me (though unfortunately there may be some beads that went out to customers). I used it a lot for encased stringer roses and discovered a few where just the rose had crazed. I stopped using it completely about a year ago and changed back to rubino. I decided that even though it is better behaved in terms of retaining its colour, the risk of crazing was too great. It's really annoying as I have even mixed 96COE transparents are encased stringer and not had problems with those. I did take it up with Sean about 18 months ago, but at that time he said he hadn't had any other complaints.

She's made of real glass. She got real real emotion. But my heart laughs I have that same sweet devotion!

I have a fair bit of the cranberry, so if there is a way of preventing the problem, I'd love to know, it's too flipping expensive to chuck!  Good to know it's not an isolated thing though ...
