It does seem to be a batch problem, perhaps there was just one rogue batch and we've been unlucky enough to get hold of it.

Have you tried pink lady, I use it instead of rubino.

Pink lady is too light for this, it'll be overwhelmed by the very bright orange I think, and probably disappear into the base  :-\

Depends what you're doing, but if you want a strong pink then try encasing perwinkle with rubino and pulling as a thick stringer, or layering in a bead.

Hi Sue,
I wonder if like you say it could be the batch that's a bit dodgy?

Just over a year ago I was having a right mare encasing rubino with clear, and every bead I made cracked. I started using cranberry instead and it worked fine - the beads are still ok now.
Interestingly I find that I cannot encase with it though!

I have had this batch of glass for ages now, so maybe a more recent one is even less forgiving.

What a pain in the bum, it's such a beautiful bead too  :(

Can I put my twopence worth in?
I used to use a lot of dichroic glass and found at different times, different batches that it was the dichroic that was causing the cracking.Unless your'e using it as a stringer it is well worth annealing the dichroic first or testing its 104 coe. I'm not saying there's not a problem with your cranberry batch though as I've not used it.
