Ask 104 Pink

I got some pink Ask  from Martin.  On his web piccie the main rod is light but the heated end is a deep solid pink.... how do I make that happen... I just have a lovely pale pink

the pink I got from Martin goes through a cycle of colour I think from pink to a purple to a blue.
the same rod shocks extremely easily so start off on the other side of the room and introduce it to the flame so slowly you may fall asleep! 
my workbench is littered with chunks of the stuff & I'm trying to think of an effective way of using it!

dunno Julie, never used the ask pink, is it a reducing colour?

I've read it's a striker - strike it in a neutral flame like you would transparent red.

hmmm.... thought I'd tried striking...  could someone give me an idiots guide... what I do is let the bead cool then flash it through the top of the flame... is that right?

and it's not shocked at all....

You might need to do more than flash through the flame, gently roll it warm in the tip of the flame, but basically you're right. Cooling first is the important bit. I've not used the Ask pinks, I'm only guessing that might work, I'm afraid!

As I understand it, passionate pink and ladies slipper are striking colours.  If you try www.arrowsprings.com/html/ask_104_colors.html
you will get a list of the colours and their characteristics, as well as some tips on striking and reducing the colours.

Must say, I like experimenting to find out the properties and effects I can get, but it could get a bit expensive sometimes!

I have some of this, fab stuff! It is a striking colour, you have to really let it cool almost till you think its gonna break then reheat till REALLY hot then let the glow go and quickly dump in kiln! Viola! The key things is the cooling before the strike it self when the glass goes back to HOT!

I havent acquired the ASK pinks yet, but thought Id toss this out re: the shocky-ness of the rods -
With Anise White - famous for being shocky, I anneal my rods with a batch of beads, before using
the Anise - it doesnt completely stop the problem, but does reduce the number of explosions....perhaps its worth a go
with this pink?  (Which is on the wish list for next order!  )

i've been playing with some of the ASK glass overnight - and i must say it is less shocky than i though it might be - i also found it very soft - it works really easily and doesn't burn off quite so quickly as some of the effetre yellows and dark blues for instance..

they all seem to strike and reduce pretty much as per the pdf... but they are stunning colours - WOW!!!.... we have a visit booked to kuegler as they make other glass too - slightly harder - but very highly rated in Germany...
