Surface mix torch

A surface mix torch is generally regarded as safer than an internal mix torch, as the gas used for fuel and the oxygen do not mix until they are outside the torch body at the point where they are ignited.

With an internal mix torch the two gases mix together inside the torch this creates the higher possibility of flashback.
