Silvered glass....

I may just be completely dumb, but the in thing at the moment seems to be silvered glass - silvered ivory, encased silvered glass, fine silver etc - could someone please explain, to someone who has been rather safe in glass choices, what is silvered glass and how one achieves the beautiful effects?  Is there something in the name of the glass to look out for, are they reduction colours?

Aha there is lots of info on silver and silvered glass around, do you have any good lampworking books,they usally cover it, and if you run a search on here there is plenty of tuts

Silver glass as in precision, northstar and double helix is glass that has large quantities of silver in its makeup, when treated right in the flame these colours can pop out in all sorts of hues.

Silvered stringer and silvered glass is all achieved with fine silver leaf or fine silver foil applied to the glass, rubbed on then heated

Some,like silvered ivory, is ivory rolled in silver leaf or foil. Leaf or wire is fine silver, purer than sterling, because sterling goes black.

But the special effect silver glasses are made with silver in them. THey are made by a few places, look for Double Helix Glassworks, Precision 104 and TAG.
