I have also had a glass sort out-there must be something in the air. It was like an archaeological dig, going through layers of blues, then reactives, then browns etc representing various fixations. Anyhow, I have a huge pile or sorted shorts to stick together but have left over browns and don't have any reliable reference rods as I'm sure Ive stuck things into the wrong pigeon holes, so can anyone give reliable tips for the folowing:

effetre silver brown vs reichenbach silver brown
reichenbach iris orange vs multicolour

oh and also blacks reichenbach vs hades

Many thanks

theres an effetre silver brown?

ok, multicolour in the rod is quite variable, I have 2 batches that are very different, one is a reddish pinky beige opaque and the other is beige like iris orange on the outside, but the inside core is a transparent greeny colour, and when you melt the end it goes greenish and transparent.

personally my main mix up is raku and magic, but I just put any unidentifiables together and make bunnies or something with them, that way it doesnt matter. I'm not sure theres a way to tell them apart, I was under the impression that magic is a slightly less saturated version and therefore can look slightly lighter. some of mine looks a more grey beige than my raku, the raku is warmer, more yellowy. but its so slight, and its not all of it!

reichenbach deep black still looks really black when pulled into the thinnest of thin stringers, hades tends not to,from memory its a very deep transparent purpley brown, but its one of the ones I have also mixed up so I wouldnt like to say or certain on that one! hades stringer over 006 clear (heated lots) webs but its more fuzzy and brown looking than intense black, and the deep black doesn't web.

reichenbach ordinary black has a tendency to go a bit silvery when worked I think. I've never tried the webbing with it to know what that does though.

hopefully some of that might help!

There are now some silver Effetre rods at Franz, Madeline.
The silver # 5 being the most popular, apparently

There are I think 5 new Effetre silver colours but I think they're all opaques by looking at them on Frantz http://www.frantzartglass.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=79_108_216_280 - never seen a silver brown though?

ETA Whoops, cross posted LInda :)  Meant to say, did you mean the Kugler silver brown as that is definitely an opaque?

I avoid looking at the frantz site, it has a tendency to cause drooling and or spending!

Being a weak willed woman .... I looked - like the look of the Mai Tai pink striking glass.  Have sent myself a link to that to look at when I get home on Monday and can order on my own PC and in private!

Don't remind me!  I may have just done that, rather more recently than I want to admit  ;D
The Mai Tai Pink is boro I think Sue, it immediately drew my attention too ...

Sean and Gillian have Mai Tai (boro) ....just sayin'  ;)

Looks scrummy doesn't it?  I have a rod somewhere, I just need to get my kiln prgrammed for boro before I have another play.
