  >:( I had a couple of freebie rods of pink filigrano glass, decided to try it out today ....but  :( :( out of one rod I have made just one bead. The rest is in bits all over the desk, it is just sooooo shocky. Tried warming it on the kiln but it didn't help much.
Has anyone else been able to use this successfully??

:)

Short answer is no.  It's just awful.  I've annealed it, tried using the shocked off bits, I've even laid the rod along a rod of clear and it still flies everywhere.  >:(

Trudi

I prefer to make my own. But for shocky rods turn your flame down low, that can help X

SRJ

So glad it wasn't just me - I gave up before it all ended up in bits....... thought I'd wait until I had some idea of how to keep it intact.

I think Trudi is right - it's best to make your own, particularly with the pink filigrano.  Thing is, when it's free .... but this stuff does turn into murrini size frit (tried using it as murrini too!) and a low flame doesn't seem to help.  I sent some to Alison, and she cussed me somewhat  ::) :P

I'm glad it's not just me too! Thank you for the replies. I hadn't thought of making my own, will give that a go.

:) :)

I've had a single rod of that for what seems like forever - been saving it for some special idea that I might have! - I shall be wary of it now!

Trudi

I have a tutorial on my site if you need it x

Ah, I'll take that as a warning! I have a rod too - only used the turquoise so far and that was fine. So I'll be wary of the pink!

ScarletLeonard

I had the same problem. I decided to nip it down and use it like murrine. warm it on my torch top marver.

use with clear and perfect floating dots.

Amber

I managed one tiny bead with it... :P

But why, after 4 years, do I STILL jump out of my skin every time a rod shocks on me  :o You'd think I'd be used to it by now  ::)

sea-thistle

I jump out my skin as well!lol

I have to say, the pink filigrano is pretty spectacular  :D  Mine didn't shock off one small piece, instead it came off the end in bite size chunks and sounded like a firework.  I jumped rather high with this one  ;D

Dragonfire Glass

I have a rod of yellow filigrano, had it since I started & put it's shockiness down to newbieness.
Maybe not!

Ant

I had a rod too and it WAS very shocky which I also put down to newbie techique.  I managed to make 4 small beads out of it but a lot of the rod did end up in pieces all over my garagio!
