silver brown frit

Hello does anyone know where I can get silver brown 104 frit, I think it is cim glass. I saw a bead made of it , I have just started to use frit and use a hot head torch .

It's reichenbach.
Works really well on the hot head and very cheap so a great starter silver glass.

Not sure if tuffnells have it in the reichenbach frit section or not but I know they do reich frits.

seriously though, does no one bother to make their own frit anymore?

I'm such a butterfly, I would never get through a whole tub of frit if I bought it, I'm always changing ideas and techniques, so making a small amount of my own is much better for the way I work.

I can understand if its blends or colours you cant get, or intense colours like reichenbach often do, but for ordinary colours, I would just get myself a jar of clean water, some coffee filters and get cracking! (sorry!)

I would Madeline for a plain colour (though then again when have you ever seen me use a plain colour frit?)

Senge, it's easy to use in rod and yes as Madeline mentioned it is really easy to make your own frit may be worth getting a bundle to try it out both ways

How do you guys make your own frit then? (apart from the frit that's all over the workbench...)

Martin sells a frit masher!!!
Bash it about and then sieve it!! It's superb for goldstone chunks!!

I get a jar of clean water, heat up the end of a rod (and pick up any of the larger bits that fell on my desk) mash it, pull it off with tweezers and chuck it in the jar. needs to be done quite quick or it cools too much.

when I have enough I tip out the water and drain the frit through a coffee filter, usually I dry it on top of my kiln.

then you can seive it if you like to sort the sizes, or use it random sized.

Thank you to every one who answered my question, I have another frit question, I only have 3 reichenbach frits from Tuffnells glass and have have been reducing them and then covering in clear. While looking on Tuffnells frit page I notice they have frit blends that say they are 104 ,but the reichenbach frits give no number ,as I have been covering my frits with clear will they now crack if the reichenbach iris frit is not 104.

even if it is 96coe so long as no more that 5% of the mass of the bead is frit it's safe.

unless you SERIOUSLY fritted the bead you should be ok.
