poo spots

Why did my rod of mermaid half way through using it develop spots of poo? I was not impressed 
So was it me or was it the glass?

I had the same thing, but it was because I was working it too hot.  I ended up with little brown 'scorch' marks.  I now work it towards the end of the flame, and it doesn't happen any more.

This could be it. I was making 2 on the same mandrel and it was always the first one that did it. Thinking back it was when I went back to give it some extra heat so it didn't get too cool.
