Madam Steph

Hi everyone.
After my hitch trying to find propane with a side top fitting, then wasting time buying steel wool to key my mandrels when I could have used some Scotchbrite, at last I conquered my apprehension of the gassy stuff and turned my HH on for the first time this Saturday.
I had the usual stuck on mandrel beads but managed to get the both of the stuck ones off eventually, the more stubborn one having been put into the freezer and parted safely tonight.
I also made more today, and although I had some teething probs with the flame going out a few times last night, this morning I juggled with the regulator and by this afternoons session, I think my set up had bedded itself in and I at last acheived a heat that would turn the glass soupy, if I wanted it too, lol.
Below are my first beads  and alongside of them and totally unconnected is one of the glass rods that was with my Tuffies Ultimate Bead Making Kit, some of which were untagged, this being one of them. The poked dot bead didnt turn out so great, but the anonymous colour rod was awesome with the colours I teamed it with, SO.... can anyone help me with the colour/number please, as I'd like to order some more:

I think it is Opal Rose no. 532 (?)............I had just one rod in my hot head starter kit too. More experienced lampies will know for sure!!!
Good luck, Corinne.

Madam Steph

Thanks for the response, Corrine.
I did look on tuffies site but the opal rose pic has never worked for me, so it may well be that one.
I'll try to find it on another site to compare xxx

Lush!

Your first beads are brilliant!

I've never had any opal rose but it looks like a striking glass (the colour develops as you heat and cool the glass),

Aww Corrine..no probs at all. It's good to have lots of opinions, it's the only way we learn..trial and error most of the time, so thanks.
It does appear that it's prolly the Powder pink though.
I thought I would have to wait for my kiln, and so many people, here and on BB forum very kindly offered to batch anneal for me, but something unexpected turned up and yesterday I ordered my extraction kit from Martin, and tomorrow I will order a Bead Cube.
George is a complete sweetie. She advised me on this to maximise the expenditure available to me, also with a view to the lesser space taken up by the Cube.
I'm very grateful to George as she has given me a lot of good advice in my short time on the forums.
Also very grateful to everyone else on here who took the time to respond.
Hopefully, one day maybe I will be in the position to reciprocate, so thanks all xxx

Fab beads Steph, you've got really good shaping there.  Lets see the others.

I definitely have the bug, Faith.
The set up has bedded in now and I'm getting a good heat/flame on the HH and my bead shaping is coming along great. I'm practising pulling stringers now. Last night I managed some 4-5" ones, and reading some posting before my joining FH, it appears I may have to heat a larger 'pea'.
Last night I also tried the sunken flower/dot  and for a first attempt I got 2 out of 3 flowers lol.
I also attempted the wiggle dot bead..heheeh...after pulling my 4-5" stringers, I made the bead then forgot to put the line around BEFORE I made the side dots, so I patched it in before melting the first lot of dots.
It half worked, but at least now I know how it's done, I can practise.
I will put pics up of my beads thus far...mistakes and all when I get home from work.
Oh, I ruined a 1.6 mandrel, but at least I know now that I work better at the moment on the thicker ones, and it also gave me better purchase on the stringer pulling. I'm useless at grabbing the 'pea' with tweezers, but the poking the 'pea' with a hot mandrel works much better for me.
I didn't buy the Bead Cube after all. I took advantage of today's Warm Glass promotion and bought the SC2B.
I'm hoping that everything I bought over Easter arrives to work this week, so I can play next weekend with all the new stuff.
