Jellyfish and clear issues

I decided to make the 'jelly fish beads' from Passing the Flame. First one lovely. Second one went yellowy green in parts after encasing. So did the 3rd and 4th. Well b****r me I was using Laucha. Am I right in saying it doesn't like any silver and not just double helix? So thinking that was my problem solved...I moved to use the labelled clear which is Vetrofond. So now we have major scumming issues. I have washed all the rods in soapy water, I removed the end  and it's still scumming. So now what. I tried another rod of Vetrofond and same problem. Is it me? Or is anyone else having issues with this clear? And am I right about the Laucha?

I have turned the torch off in disgust and am moving towards the winerack!!!

I hate Vetrofond clear, so much that mine if off to a new home.  I was wondering the same about Lauscha myself, I tend now to use 006 almost exclusively.

The only home mine is going to is either back to martins if he will have it or the bin!!! I have shed loads of it too

Lauscha Clear doesn't like silver I don't think.  Vetrofond is notorious for scumming.  I use Reichenbach clear now and really like it.

Don't throw away the clear. Use it under silver glass or opaques. Makes expensive glass go a lot further.

Lauscha does often turn silver yellowish. Not always, so it's worth having a play. Some people encase with the very pale aqua transparent because silver stays silver under it.

not tried lauscha clear, I use 006 or reichenbach.

and I always use scummy clear under a big bead thats opaque, I'll never use the blinkin stuff up otherwise!
even if I'm using a cheaper colour, it means I don't have to re-order so often!

Don't send back the Lauscha - it's a beautiful glass, it doesn't always play with silver glass, though. As for vetrofond, I had the most brilliant batch, and the next time it was all scummy. I don't use it any more. Basically, for silver glass encasing I now only use effetre 006 - it's cheap, and it's available. Having said that, if you can see a rod scumming even after you have cleaned and picked off the tip, just pick another rod!! If you can get hold of precision that is the best, I've been told, but I've never used it.

Bugger, I just bought a kilo of vetro clear!  It said it was "Vetrofond Crystal has long been regarded as the best crystal clear rod in the world.Known for its brightness and non scumming" on Martins site.

I'll give it a go when I am childfree and see how I get on!

As for over silver glass, only 006, I think I have tried CIM but I can't remember how it came out!!!!  Chocolate teapot?  Me?

I'm an Eff 006 girl all the way, but Reichenbach crystal is also lovely.

I had a few wonderful batches of vetrofond crystal clear - I just stopped ordering it after I had reached 3 batches of scummy glass... I hope you are lucky, KJ

As for child free - how was the surf at croyde today?  We've been on the beach almost every day since FO - better enjoy whilst summer is here!!

My vetrofond nearly went in the bin I hated it so much. I used it up on mixed glass where a bit of scum doesn't matter too much. Martin really needs to get that description off the website. (Also needs to rethink the statement that a midrange can be turned down to a needle flame.)

Effetre can vary, the stuff I've had over the last couple of years has been fine so long as it's not brought too close to the torch. (I suspect the bad stuff might have been re-labelled vetro.)

Laucha is the only glass I use for encasing now. I believe that their current clear formula is ok with silver, afraid I have not tested it.

I'm rescued as far as this weekend is concerned. Manda has some 006 that I can get tomorrow. I will be ordering my own batch and using the nasty 'V' stuff for underneath other prettier more reliable glass
