I have some Lapis and the rod shocks even after I have warmed the end and wound enought molten glass for a small bead onto the mandrel - bits of it are flying off everywhere.

I don't remember having any trouble with it .. but then glass can vary sometimes, from batch to batch ... are you sure there are no teeny air holes running down the length of the rod ? ... that can be a pain sometimes

Mand

Oh dear.  I've found Marshmallow and Cirrus to be shocky. Haven't tried my Lapis yet, and prob won't get a chance till Monday.  If you've got a kiln you could pop the rod on the top to heat up a bit - that's what I do with my shocky glass.  It usually works.... :)

or on top of the kiln, you could also try turning down your flame a little when trying this!!

I have had a day of everything being shocky, been driving me up the wall  :-\  I don't usually have the problems I have been having today  :-X

I'll look for air holes, not usually had this problem - after being burnt on my stomach when a burning shard flew down my dress last year I am REALLY careful warming rods.

In general I find cim glasses a lot more shocky than the normal effetre colours. Today I have ordered myself a single candle simple food warmer - with a tile on top I hope it to be just what I need, both for tricky rods and the many murrini I work with.

Frit on a stick  ;D ;D

In fairness though, I think that one was a dodgy batch  :)

I've not really had too may problems with CIM rods since the Fremen episode.

I did plung the remains of a rod of Effetre baby pink the other week because it kept on shocking an inch from the melty bit!! Very annoying but I showed it who was boss  :P

I think it may be the atmosphere - I have had shocky peace, vetro dark sky and eff baby pink today.

She's made of real glass. She got real real emotion. But my heart laughs I have that same sweet devotion!

I must admit, I usually find CIM fine - the fremen was a one-off. i do think the outside air affects things though. Some days are shockier than others.

Out of interest what is the weather like where you all are today, maybe if there are similarities you could narrow it down?

Bloody awful - dismal, grey and drizzly where I am.

Hope the 'B' word is OK. With some of the swear words around nowadays I find it endearing rather than offensive, but then I do have rather a foul mouth on me sometimes!

I had a whole rod of eff yellow turn into frit today.  Gave up and turned off the torch.
