Cranberry

One of my best friends has asked me to make her a Hooooj big hole bracelet bead, to match a Swarovski crystal necklace that she has.  Luckily, or so I thought, Cranberry (and I'm not sure right now whether it is Effetre or CiM) was a perfect match.

But I'm really struggling!

It should be pretty simple, all she wants is a plain bead in one colour, but I'm finding that when i;ve made and shaped it, there are amberish streaks through the glass - the lovely clear cranberry red is there, but is sort of cloudy!   I've made 4 now but no luck - I've tried using more oxy and less propane and vice versa - I've adjusted my kiln annealing temp to slightly lower, but no luck>

What am I doing wrong???

Am I overheating it???

I usually work the pinks as far out from the torch as possible as they don't seem to like being over heated .... I garage at 520 and haven't had any hassles with cranberry

Thanks Les, that is probably what I'm doing wrong then.  Because she wants a BIG bead, the glass does take some melting, so I'll try it again and take more time and less heat.

I do find that cranberry can take more heat than rubino though But still ... work it cool

If your desprate try a rod bullseye cranberry. It's a pleasure to use.

Cloudy sounds like rubino...but yo can also get black bits in that too...like they've said..cool and slow...good luck!..
