I'm not sure if this is in the right place, but my niece has asked if I can make her a bead set in neon green.  Does anybody have any ideas how I could achieve this?  Perhaps a particular green etched perhaps?  Silver foil?  Any ideas would be hugely welcome - it's not very often she asks for anything and I'd love to be able to do this for her.  :)

Ask 104 did a glass called 'neon green', and tuffnells had it a couple of months ago, they might still have it, might be worth a shot? Not sure how neon it is but I have a rod somewhere, will have a look for it when I'm in the studio tomorrow :)
Otherwise kryptonite is pretty neon looking, but maybe too blue? Sorry I'm not much use! Good luck though I'll let you know about the ASK tomorrow x

Oooh just thought cim poison apple might be worth a go? Good luck!!

Aaah, poison apple, thanks Helen - I know I've a rod or two hiding away somewhere  ;D  Off to experiment ..

What about trans grass green over acid yellow, would that be neony enough?

I'd suggest Plowden & Thompson Uranium if you can get your hands on some, this stuff doesn't glow in the dark but really shines in evening muted light. Yummy.

I have some poison apple and iris green with various transparents over them cooking at the mo - no idea what they're going to be like.  I like the idea of the grass green over acid yellow, thanks Tan, I'll give that a try tomorrow.
I've never tried any Plowden & Thompson as yet - I'm not sure if I'm ready to add another load of glass to the collection!  If I can't get the effect I want I may give it a go tho.  Thanks all  :-*

ASK Neon is lovely, I haven't compared it to poison apple heated, but in the rod it looks very similar shade.

Ruth is it uranium in 93 or 100? I may have some, I dunno, haven't climbed out of the 104 box lately (mainly cause I cant be bothered to tidy my desk!)

Sue, if you find you need a rod or 2 of something you haven't got and I have, I think I owe ya a small something for a bundle of zips and stuff

also if you're trying greens over yellows, electric striking yellow can do some interesting cloudy milky effects, and I have some of that. I also have effetre uranium which is quite bright colour, but not very saturated if you see what I mean. I have stockpiled ASK Neon cause I love it

of course if you're talking highlighter pen neon then you may need to go lighter, one of the opaque lime greens with uranium over might do it.

MadelineBunyan

PS can you tell I like green? ;D

awrylemming

I don't think I have any uranium - I doubt if what I have made so far is going to do the job.  I did a tester mandrel, blobbed a number of different greens etc along the rod and blobbed the trans over the top and I'm not getting anything like the colour I'm after  :-\ Why can't she like pink?! Tbh, green is my go for colour and I have a fair bit but haven't been at this lark very long so I have huge gaps in my stash. I'll wait and see if annealing makes a difference, although I doubt it hugely, and then I may take you up on your offer, thanks hun  :-*

MadelineBunyan

no problem, just give me a shout.

I have everything mentioned here so far except possibly the plowden uranium, I'd have to check that.

I have no Idea what I've got in my p&T 100 stash. tis buried!

it looks similar in colour depth to the effetre stuff, but the glow you get may be different.

Trudi

Just a thought - sometimes etching can make a difference. If you have a darker core encased with a lighter transparent and etch it - it does give a glow effect! Perhaps you could try that with the acid yellow & grass green?

awrylemming

The acid yellow and the grass green are my next stop - I'll try it etched too.  I have great hopes ...  ;D
