Shards - How do you Use 'Em??

You just know that I'm going to be a total glass addict, in every sense of the word!  Not even set up yet and am collecting glass, frit, murrini and shards at an alarming rate of knots!!!

I'm pretty okay with how to use frit and murrini, but what about shards??    How best to apply them?

Any advice gratefully received!
