EDP went transparent...

I made a pair of plain EDP spacers at the weekend - kept hot all the time I was shaping them and put them in the kiln glowing in an attempt to prevent them devitrifying. Well, there's no devit, but they came out a slightly misty transparent!

Um, is EDP supposed to do that? 

I've only used it in small amounts of surface decoration before and it was properly opaque then...

Yup, it's definitely EDP. I collected it at the FlameOff (from Martin, I think) and it's behaved as expected with periwinkle and things...

I've never had a bead go transparent but the end of the rod often is so I suppose thats just part of the fun of EDP!

Rod, stringer from the used rod, beads from the used rod... They're hazy and a bit pinker than they photographed. For comparison, my rubino is darker and clearer.

Now I'll go and see if I can make it be opaque!

Hi, I think I have the answer - you do not have EDP there!  I bought some from Martin earlier this year and wondered why I was having a problem with it - and was suspicious about the core as if you look at the end you can see what looks like a transparent core with EDP round it.  I was on holiday last week in Pickering so not very far from Tuffnells so had to go and say hello (and buy more glass - oops!) whilst there I asked Martin about my EDP.  It turns out it is not EDP but is stripy pink - he made a mistake earlier in the year and stripy pink went out instead of EDP.  Stripy pink is a rubino core with EDP round the outside (I'm a newbie so if I've got that wrong please correct me) anyway, I gather it is a pretty glass and expensive (but still not good if what you wanted was purple...).  But that would explain both the pink colour and the transparency.

Hmmm. It sure doesn't look like my EDP - with that strange core - so I think fionaess might have solved this one

I agree - the EDP I have is opaque all the way through.

Ahh, thanks Lilley! I was beginning to wonder...

Now I guess I should go and look up whether there's a better way to work it.

When I was doing surface decoration with it I was using the stringer only, which I made by creating a plug on my chopsticks and pulling, so I think that must have mixed it up enough that it appeared opaque when used.

Hmm - I have stripped pink and while it's called pink it's actually opaque purple!

I really don't know. He did have striped pink on his website before, but only briefly, and that was around the time I ordered.

ahh, i have that stuff too, I got it under the impression it was edp too? so does martin have the real epd in now?
