oxycons verses bottle oxygen?

The current cost of bottle gas (for a hobby) is a bit costly for me, but I do like to the level of presure plus the other advantages, also the amount of issues with oxycons - the complaints and breakdowns- have made me think twice before changing to oxycons ? What do other more experianced lampworkers advise?

I have been wondering this today, my bottle ran out and the place to get a new one was shut. I now can't get a new bottle till tuesday and i'm gutted i can't torch till then. Anyway i was thinking of getting a oxycon and was wondering what the differences where.

I am a bottled fan but then I get it free and have strong young lads to cart it around for me so I'd be mad not to    Seriously, I live on a trout farm and we use loads of bottled oxy to transport fish up and down the countryside so my usage is pretty insignificant compared to that, they use a whole tank on one trip. If I wasn't in this fortunate position I think I'd probably be on an oxycon

I've got an Oxycon..well 2 actually...only because one packed up and i didn't want to wait for ages while it got fixed...i bought another one...wanted to try boro so wasn't too tough a decision.
Have never used bottled, but i suppose it's what works best for you!...hope you find some good advice on here that'll help you decide!

I was on tanked but have now got an oxycon... 

Tanked is way more expensive IMHO.  The rental alone was around £100 a year and I was getting through a tank (just under £30) a month and I don't get that much time each week, either.  So at that rate, an oxycon should pay it's way pretty quickly and hence I changed over.

If you shop around for propane you can get it quite cheaply, and if you get an oxycon you could probably sell it if you find you don't want to carry on...works out cheaper than little mapp gas bottles  .

I know this thread is mainly about oxygen but on a side note re propane ... if you get Calor propane you may have to pay a deposit for your first bottle but then at least you will be able to replace it at pretty much any petrol station, at pretty much any time of day or night

That's true Julie, we ended up with a jsgas bottle as it wa our nearest and simplest supplier, but I cant   get it at the weekends as the garage has usually run out by then and guess when I alwas seem to run out.
