Well, I finally have everything and I feel like the biggest newb on the planet again  :-[
I don't know what does what anymore! So many things to twiddle.....
There's the knob on the propane bottle, how far should I turn that?
The regulator is a big knob, how far should I turn that?
I'm guessing I won't need to turn the knob on the HH itself much once I have twiddled the others properly.....?

And to bleed the pipes at the end of the session, do I turn off the bottle knob with the flame still going to burn off the gas?

Arrrgggh, can't believe I'm asking such stupid, fundamental questions!  >:(

Please help, Wanna Torch Wanna Torch Wanna Torch!!!!!  :'(

Thank you very much  ;D

hello veebee! congratulations it arrived :)
ok, make sure the regulator is in really tightly to the propane take, I use a spanner. The regulator is usually 3/4 open although sometimes I find my flame is better if its about half way. Turn the gas on full (that way you know you are turning it off the right way  ::) ) then torch on full, light and away you go!! I bleed the pipes after every session as a habit by turning off the gas at the bottle then leaving the flame on til it goes out. then turn off the hothead knob.
hope that helps, your questions are not stupid at all and enjoy!!  ;D

Veebee

Helen, thank you!  :-*

Just waiting for my mandrels to dry (can't believe I forgot to do them, soooo out of practise!  ::) )

Whoooooooo!!!!!!

I can torch again  ;D  ;D  ;D

the twisty thing at the front

I am so glad you have everything - enjoy  ;D

(I tend to hold a lighter under my gas until there is nothing left to burn when I bleed my pipes, is that over kill?)

Do you turn your HH knob all the way round then?  I just do mine half a turn ... doesn't seems to make any difference to the flame...?

My regulator came set at 4, what ever that means.... not much help am I. TTFN  ::) ;)

P.S. Have FUN!

Veebee

We are just putting it together now! I used to only turn my HH on about a quarter turn, more if the gas pressure was going. I guess with the regulator the HH knob just becomes an on/off switch.....

I just unwrapped my HH, it has got a knob on it  ;D
Its been sat on the dining room table still sealed for about 2 weeks so probbly about time i opened it and had a look anyway!

Mand

Well thank god it's got a knob!  I thought Wot no  knob!! :o :P

Veebee

Well, I turned all my knobs in the appropriate fashion, and I can get the HH to light, but it starts to lose pressure almost immediately then PooF! The flame goes out  :'(
I have quite a long length of hose, does that make a difference?

Gonna be throwing my dummies out of my pram VERY soon Mwwwaaaaaa!

Is the gas cold? Has it been stored outside?

Veebee

We just got it today, do I need to let it warm up? How do people get on with storing their gas ouside then? Soooo frustrated!

jammie

have you tried the cover the hot head holes with foil while you light it and leave it on for a few seconds then take it off

Veebee

I have a foil collar in place so I'll give that a go now! Thanks  :D

 :'(

Even without the oxygen from the holes it still starts to lose pressure straight away. It's almost as though it's just burning what is in the hose and not drawing anything from the cylinder itself, so the flame just burns itself out.....
