Is it possible to get nice colours from Dalai Lama on a Hothead?

Hi All

In a fit of hopefulness (and perhaps stupidity!) I bought 2 rods of Dalai Lama to have a play with.  Try as I might, and with no amount of heating it, cooling it, reintroducing in into the flame slooooowly, cooling again etc...

I can't get anything other than pale sludge tan from it.

Is it possible on a HH to get pinks/purples?

If so, can anyone give me an idiots guide?
