Striking yellow

Not sure what's happening, I may just be having a derrr moment - I made some beads for a client with striking yellow - worked fine - she asked for some more & I'll be bu*****d if I can get the yellow to stay yellow. I have even bought another batch (think the problem is with me though) I know that if you super heat it, the colour disappears, but can't get it back. I don't have any problems with the red & orange. Any suggestions? (Btw I have a Bobcat)

I don't know ? .... have you tried letting it cool a bit, then gently re heating it ?? Without cooking it beforehand, that is ??

I have been placing a dot of yellow on top of white, melting in and marvering in to drag the dots so the marvering should cool it a bit but I think the damage must be done when I melt it in $:-\$

yeh... sounds like it's getting too hot.... I'd just try melting it in a bit further out in the flame

I'll give it a go, thanks but failing that - any suggestions re a transparent yellow that doesn't need strilking?

to be honest - most of them strike.

But I have found working higher up in the flame works best for these colours. Especially when making small spacers! Hopefully this will help!

Will have another go tonight - think the yellow must be more sensitive - I use the red all the time without problems.

Does it kiln strike for you? I've had some yellow that I've struggled to strike but its come back bright and fresh from the kiln. I spoke to a lady at the Flame Off that was having a similar problem with a pink or red I think. She had set the beads aside to throw away, but hadn't annealed them. She was going to anneal them when she got home in the hope her efforts hadn't been wasted.

I anneal straight from the flame - I know there are some colours that develop on consequent anealling but have never tried it.

If you dont mind a slightly cloudy look to the yellow then Reichenbach gold yellow is pretty nice. Just watch it because I found it can burn fairly easily, and I'm on a HH! High in the flame is the way to go with this one. It does have a nice inner glow though. And it doesnt seem to strike, it just goes a bit more transparent than the rod. Good luck!

I have been known to put beads into the kiln and get them out a few minutes later to strike - it works very well but you need to be careful reintroducing the bead to the flame.

Well, I have put them all back in the kiln - for a third time. They went a bit yellow in places on the second visit - looked like boiled eggs - so they have got another chance - if it doesn't work this time, there will be trouble. Me thinks the yellow strikes too easily and if the piece needs more than one process - I bugger it up
