Vanilla Ice Question

Just got my lastest batch out of the kiln, using my normal batch annealing schedule (r149t520h60 r67t320h0) and a strange thing has happened

There was one Vanilla Ice bead in the batch (usual thing, I'd just made the base, ready to decorate and DH comes into the shed and I'm needed on the phone - abandon decoration and cool in vermiculite)
I know there's a high silver content in Vanilla Ice, but the bead is not smooth and shiny, it has a curious rough texture, a bit like 2000 grit paper, feels a bit like stone - very tactile - I think I'll use it as a worry bead

Can anybody explain why this has happened?

Sounds like its devitrified? But I can't see why it should.
Was it like that when it went into the kiln? Or just after it was annealed?
I'm sure there is someone else out there who knows more than I do.

What glass is Vanilla Ice? Lovely name but I don't think I've come across it.

Modified...not Bullseye...it's a Lauscha creamy white colour, and it is lovely!

It's very odd isn't it!
It went in normal and came out strange - hopefully I'm seeing bluefairy and sulis tomorrow - prehaps they're have better descriptions for it

It's a great glass - I like it cause it's a lot stiffer to work with than some whites, some good reactions too!

several of my beads have done that but i figured i was putting into vermiculite when to hot ..........a newbi error i figured ......

not what has happend to yours .......but im sure they are lovely anyway ..

No it's not the furry bottom/vermiculite pot holes from being put away too hot. It was nice and smooth and shiny when it went into the kiln and came out - well different!
All the others are nice and shiny and smooth, just the plain vanilla ice one roughish, but in a strangely nice way!!!

Well, I've done a bit more research and found a thread on LE - although it looks like devitrification, it also says that you shouldn't batch anneal Lauscha glass as it can cause this problem! I didn't know that!!!
I've used Lauscha in the past and batch annealed, but I'd never just had a plain Vanilla Ice one before - well, you live and learn
