Encasing reds

I've just been reading a blog post about the difficulties of encasing many of the reds, yellows and oranges without them cracking.
I didn't know that these colours were known to be especially difficult, but maybe I've not tried encasing many of them.

Have any of you had problems / successes with encasing these colours? I know I have encased Maraschino with no problems and some yellows too - I tend to make small-ish beads, but now I'm wondering whether the beads will eventually crack?

No problems with Effetre, but CIM clockwork doesn't seem keen on being encased!!  I have got away with it a few times but I would say that 80% of the time it cracks!

just encases valentine, no cracking but was disappointed as it seems to have been diluted by the clear and my flowerd look rather flat

I never encase CIMs due to worries about cracking but have not had any problems (that I know of) with encasing the effetres.

I use clockwork as the base for Clio beads which means it is encased 3 times. No problems.

And I usually encase sangria too!
Now some of the frit blends can be tricky .... and I tend to leave them on the surface!

I've encased Sangria few times but the core is tiny in comparison to the encasing - no problems so far

So... Kaz and Helen, do you not encase any CIM glass at all? Or just the reds?
Would they be less prone to cracking if encased with CIM clear? 

Always so much to learn about glass it seems, I guess that's partly what keeps us so fascinated by it!

I don't encase any CIM at all - even with CIM clear I have had problems with cracking and so I don't risk it. For the Clio thing I'd use eff orange striker or the batch of 422 that was opal.

Nope, won't risk encasing any CIM unless its just dots of it. Spent many hours on many occasions making sets with CIM cores to have them all develop incompatibility cracks within a few hours of cleaning. Had problems encasing with CIM too. I used to encase with cranberry ALL the time with no prob, then had a batch that just wouldn't without cracking I even sent rods to half a dozen members on here to make sure I hadn't lost my touch or that my kiln was the problem, cracked with everyone else too so I'm afraid I'm totally with Kaz and think its not worth the risk when effetre has never caused me a problem

Me too now.  I have had some that have survived with clockwork, but a big failure rate and often haven't noticed until about to sell it to a customer!!!!!

The only CIM that I ever had crack was Very Berry and that was only when I encased it with Effetre, not CIM clear. Weird. I've encased ALOT of sangre and clockwork, never had a problem!!

I don't encased many reds, but I have encased CiM Sangre with no problem at all. I also encase CiM Marshmallow and Dirty Martini very with no cracking ever. Maybe it depends on the batch of each glass?

The clockwork I've been encasing is probably from when it first came out, so I guess we must be talking at least 4 years.
