Oh dear.  I spent ages yesterday practising my stringers and at the end I had a play with a silvered dark ivory stringer, wrapping it over the join between the periwinkle blue and lapis cobalt.

What did I do wrong to end up with the periwinkle blue looking so yukky?

Oooohhh  :-\

Purple Cobwebs

I think it looks rather nice!
Silvered ivory does have a tendency to react with many of the turquoises and light blues.

I agree it's a lovely bead.
The silver in the stringer fumed onto the periwinkle causing the yellow tinge. If you look at the cobalt you may find it also has an 'oil slick' appearance. Pinks are also notorious for turning yellow at the tiniest hint of silver. It's a reaction that some people love whilst others hate. Try encasing the colour with clear prior to adding the sis. if it's not what your after.

Looks like the silver in your stringer fumed your colour to a tobacco yellow  >:( Makes me cross when I forget about the silver fuming. Some colours are more susceptible than others. For me the worst is white.

I'm not a lampworker but I think that bead is really beautiful!

what would happen if you etched  / tumbled it?

I don't think it's bad on blue - looks blimmin' awful on pink though as it always sends the pink a muddy yellow colour. Try it on teal, or ink blue or even rubino ora for other interesting effects!

Thank you. Just turned the kiln on to heat up for today's practice.
Once I've done my 'applying stringer until I can do it properly -  :-\' practice, I'll have a go.
