Hi

I have searched the forum but could not find an appropriate thread which answers my question:

How do you get DH Aurae to reduce on a Minor?  It's been a couple of years since I played with DH (so expensive and now I remember why!)  I made a dark ivory lentil and tried creating a pattern with an aurae stringer I'd pulled. It wouldn't go silvery, I tried turning the oxy up and down.  Eventually I held my mashers in the flame in front of the bead and got a slight shiny reaction that way.  There has to be an easier way on a  Minor torch than this.  I don't really want to melt and bend my mashers.  Any tips would be greatly appreciated. :-\

Thanks, Mand x

I use a bobcat but you'd do it the same. Make your bead, let it cool a little, then turn up the propane or turn down the oxy so you get long yellow candles, then waft the bead through a few times.

I've always found aurae to be one of the easier DH glasses.  Are you sure it's aurae and not a regular purple that has got muddled up?

That's wonderful, thanks both of you. I'd forgotten about the tip of the flame ... and I guess I need to practice with the up and down of the oxy /propane ... Defo sure it's Aurae Shirley, as I keep it my "well-pricey glass" collection in a jam jar next to the kiln.  ;)

I always turn my oxy down, and waft it through the orange candle.   :)

I used to do it the 'wrong' way on a hothead and bring it right own to about 1cm from the torch and spin for a couple of seconds.
