I've been playing about pulling my own thick stringers trying to get some cool effects and last night ran into a little problem.

I had
Reichenbach Mystic Purple
Reichenbach Silver Brown
Effetre Trans Pink

made a barrel of mystic purple, losely threw a spiral of silver bwown and encased the lot in the trans pink.

Got a thick (about a mm wider than a commercial stringer) and a thin stringer out of my gather and it looked pretty, thought I would use the thick part to make a bead and see what the whole thing came out like so i made a clear base and went to use the thick (warmed) stinger.

Shocky isn't the word for it every time the stringer went near the flame boom! never even got as close to getting it onto the bead,.

I've never had shocking this bad before and wondered if anyone had any insight into why this combination just didn't want to play.

The thin ones work fine no problems there.

Shame is that it gave a lovely effect and I would like to make more but need to get the shock under control or I won't have anything bigger than 8mm beads :(

You could try annealing it? It doesn't necessarily sound like compatibility, just shocky, and you can get that with just one glass. You might have air bubbles trapped, or maybe the gather wasn't really hot through. Or being thicker, it might just need annealed.

I'm not sure if I've got this right, but I'm sure I remember reading that if you  pull a stringer with 2 incompatible colours side by side, then the stringer will bend as it cools. Might be worth giving that a go if you're ever uncertain ?
