This is probably a really daft question with an obvious answer... however it's not happened to me before so I hope someone can advise plz!

I've run out of thinner black glass rods and have only got some rather fat ones left - they are too fat for me to make neat little footprints with anyway and I feel a bit daunted using them!

I'm not sure what to do to get them to a usable and reasonably uniform thickness!  Is it just a question of heating the blighters and rolling them on a marver to make them slimmer, or would I be better trying to "pull" them, or are you just supposed to use them a bit more carefully?!

Thanks, Julie

I would heat them an pull them into a fat stringers to give you a narrower footprint.

Or heat and roll the end inch or so to a point, once you've got your footprint down it doesn't matter how thick the rod is.

Thanks for those suggestions - very much appreciated!  I'm going to try both a bit later today so hopefully will get on OK :)

To get a nice pointy end on a rod as you are working simply heat the end, touch to the tip of your mandrel and pull it out a bit. Can also be used to make short pieces of emergency stringer.

That's exactly what I do  ;D

If it's got a hole, it's a bead !

Thanks folks - I can always make the ends pointy - but it was just that the rods themselves were so fat, about twice as thick as normal, so they felt a bit unwieldy to handle and I think I panicked a bit!!! :-D
