Not that I'm ready for more glass yet, but for when I am: what colours would you recommend I get for working on a hothead? I'm thinking in the vein of which special glasses that would work, which colour combos are good for newbies, that sort of thing :D

I would suppose you might want to avoid the stiffer colours on a HH, as they'll take longer to melt - like transparent blue for example.  And thick rods, like some of the lauscha colours... TBH it never bothered me though  :D

Triton and Psyche are a treat on a hot head..xxx
no...don't throw that in the landfill..maybe i can use it..for something..or ...

Yep, avoid anything thick, you will be there forever, trans blues and reds are pretty stiff to work but all the opaque colours are good

I haven't noticed much problem with transparent blues... Sure, some colours are softer than others, but I wouldn't have thought the difference was enough to avoid them (especially if you like blue!) ;D

I have noticed some are slower than others on the HH but haven't ran into any major problems yet. I'm working my way through the long way round trying a bit of everything thanks to my determination to see it all for myself. So when I do progress to a Minor I know roughly what I can expect from the glass.

I'm sticking to getting my hands on effetre rod selections for the time being, very tempted to try the Reichenbach which I nearly put in with my order today but decided to wait a little longer. (wails that they were so much prettier than the effetre cool colours selection.)

I'm not bothered if I end up with a few 'organic' (I use that term very loosely) if it means in the long run I understand the glass better.

I have probably succeeded in confusing you even more.

With regard to silver glass, you won't go wrong with Psyche, Aurae and Triton as they are reducers, and the Hothead does reducing very nicely :)

Hazer

Okay, so Triton and maybe Pschye and Aurae are definites :D I didn't realise the transparent blues were a bit stiffer - it explains why I had a bit of trouble with them, but I'm stubborn, so I've kept going with them ;) For me it's the yellows that are difficult for some reason.

At the moment, I'm going through the mixed Effetre glass I got with Tufnell's starter pack, but I've realised I'm kinda bad with colour matching, so I have some odd combos...like bright yellow with orangey-red raised dots :(

Why are you finding the yellows difficult flower?

Hazer

They just don't seem to melt at all - I spent about ten minutes trying to get one rod properly glowing and moving :( And seeing as my hothead tends to go out every ten to twenty minutes, that meant I got it glowing, then the flame went out before I could make a bead (I torch outside)
