I recently bought some CIM Marshmallow - the perfect opal white for a commission I'm working on. In rod form, it's just what I've been looking for; however I made several spacers to see how the glass turned out from the kiln and they're all opaque white, no hint of translucency. I tried again, working cooler and then hotter to see if this made a difference. They all were nicely cloudy when they went into the kiln, but they didn't stay like this; I guess the kiln strikes them to opaque? Can anybody tell me what I can do to keep the opal effect? Thank you!  :)

I think you're after cim cirrus which is the opal White cim do. It's a lovely glass but doesn't like to be worked in large pieces as it seems to always crack on me! Lol smaller beads seem fine though. X

I got Cirrus, I love it's translucency,  it is a cracker though, and I only use it now if I can put it directly in the kiln as I make it.  ::) :P

Thanks for your replies. I thought Marshmallow was an opal, but I must have been mistaken  ::)  :) I'd read the problems people had with Cirrus, which is why I hoped the Marshmallow would do what I want and be reliable. It's a lovely soft white though and definitely a pretty glass to have anyway, but I'll have to get some Cirrus - and keep my fingers crossed it works!  :D Thank you!  :)

it's kinda inbetween a real opaque white and cirrus - butI've found that it doesn't like to be encased. Has anyone else found that?

Ooh that's interesting... One of the beads I made on my first go was an encased floral so I'll keep an eye on it and report back on that one too!
