Hope one of you wonderful and experienced people can help me. I have some Taxco silver glass that I have had some time. When I first got it I tried making a hollow and it ended up with a beautiful metallic sheen.  I have also successfully used it to make stormed stringer. Since then I have tried once or twice to make spacer type beads and I can't get them to reduce at all. I have the tips from the Wiki and Off Mandrel's website I still nothing. They are a very pretty blue but no metallic sheen. Tho only colour change is that a couple of them have gone rusty red in patches. Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong please before I get even more frustrated  >:(

Thank  you

Amanda

are you sure you picked up the right rod?  :)

Did you pray and give offerings to the gods of silver glass? Usually shouting and weeping helps too ;)

Hi Amanda,

Taxco should reduce very easily...I'm afraid, at the danger of sounding daft, I'm with Colette....I myself have picked up effetre light turquoise instead  ::) ???

The only other thing I can think of is that it might need more reducing to get the small surface of a spacer, so I'd reduce more...I've not yet managed to over-reduce it, so nothing ventured....

Sorry, these might be completely useless ideas  ::)

Sal recently said that glass mustn't be too cool before you reduce it...

Thank you very much for all the good ideas. I am sure that it is Taxco not Effetre - I keep them separately because they are so alike. When I took the spacers out of the kiln they are a bit reduced around the holes. I think I may have worked too hot. I would have been more careful about over heating the hollow than I was about the spacers. I am going to try again and keep things cooler. Before I do I will do the appropriate dance, make an offering to the gods and gnash my teeth a bit!  ;D
