Wishing Wells Glass

Hi guys :)  Ok so I've read about using a twistie made from Effetre Straw Yellow and Reichenbach Iris Orange to achieve 'faux boro' effects.  I used a transparent dark purple base, swirled it with the twistie, melted in and encased.  It looks.. bleh.  Of course maybe the effect becomes more pronounced after annealing?

Anyway, does anyone have any tips for using this method?  Did I miss a step?  Should I have super-heated the bead after I melted in the twistie?  Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated :)

Thanks!

You should see the effect as soon as you encase, often the colours appear as soon as the clear hits it. Oh, just re-read your post - you need iris gold, not iris orange! It's a clear or yellow transparent.

Preferably not the 104 version as the 96 iris gold gives better results :)

Oops!  I definitely read it was Iris Orange.. oh well!  Now I have a 1/4 kilo of ugly glass!  lol :)

Thanks girls.. I'll try it with Iris Gold next time!

Iris orange is raku...you can still make fab things with it.  Not that I know but have read you can!  Or you can make frit with it!

Actually, I have made the faux boro with several different iris glasses - you would have to check how different ones react. I don't know how you made the stringer, but it's good if it is fairly loaded with iris frit. The background may be dark or light depending on the type of iris glass you use.

It is not necessary, but it helps to enhance the reactions if you add silver foil/leaf before adding the frit or frit stringer. You can get beautiful reactions by just adding the frit on top of the silver foil (even without the straw yellow).

Anyway, here's a link to a picture, where in the lower left I used Iris Light Blue (is that the correct name?) and lower right is Iris Gold and straw yellow on amethyst, raked:

And the ugly yukky glass, well, that is also wonderful, but treated slightly different, check up on raku (Mary has written a wonderful tut on how to treat it somewhere on FH) ;D ;D

Keiara, pm me your address, and I'll send you some Iris Gold, I have quite a big pot of it - see if you like it, then you can buy some more if you want to. You are so kind to everyone, you deserve a little treat  :-*

I just purchased Iris Night Blue.  Very dark but only tried it once.

Any suggestions on what transparent to use it with?

Oh, Sal, I'm blushing and beaming at the same time over your lovely words - now you are probably entered into Keiara's "spread the love challenge"  ;D ;D PS: I don't silver core, it's glued-in rivets, and I made those beads for the FH Big Hole Bead swap last year.

Keiara, I forgot to say, the top middle bead is that "yukky stuff" Iris Orange a la Raku, on black  :)
