Intense Black

Hi,

Does anyone else hae problems with Intense black lentils cracking?  I made some lovely ones last night with swirls of psyche which I was really chuffed with.  When i took them off mandrels this morning 2 out of 3 cracked instantly.

Think I've tried Intense Black before on another type of bead and something similar happened too!

What did I do wrong?

Hi i had the same prob with tiles i made 15 in all and only have 3 to show for it .

Never heard of that before.  I use it a lot as raised stringer...    Do you anneal as you go, or batch?  Were the previous beads that cracked also with a double helix glass?

Do you use it as the base of the whole bead or as light decoration? It might be that it doesn't like itself that much, some of the glasses are funny like that the P and T glasses seem to be the worst culprits!!

Never had a problem with intense black but then I've only ever used it in very thin stringer.  How did you use it Vicki?

I was using it as the base bead with some dots on it retro style .

Thanks everyone.

I was using it as a base colour, with psyche swirls on top.  I've just tried using it as another base bead to see what happens.  Is it not a good glass for a base, is it more for decoration?

Newbie at this so not sure what on earth I'm doing sometimes

 Hi Vicki,  I only ever use intense black for effects not for base.  I have had problems when applying too much to a bead.  Given the cost and it's wonderful qualities I would probably keep  it for this and use something like Hades if you want a strong black.  Just my opinion but hope it helps

Intense black is mainly used for decoration, usually when black is pulled into stringer it shows as purple against a light base, intense black stays black. Its also put to good use when used in hair thin stringers over ivory, it webs out. It is a pricey glass because of the density of pigment thats why most people use it as decoration only

A normal black will be fine if you want it as a base bead

Having said that, I've had problems with Vetro black as a base for some silver glasses, so I'd go for Hades as a strong black base.
