Im a glassy babe

Hi  :)

I have been experimenting with encasing, and I've been pretty happy with the overall results, although I seem to get the odd small bubble here and there ???.  Is this normal? does everyone get this, or am I doing something wrong?

I've been using a CIM transparent colour, and Effetre transparent colours, as the effetre clear that I have doesn't seem to work too well.

Any advice would be great!

Thanks

How are you encasing - round the world or linea?

Hi,

I presume round the world means around the bead shape not from hole to hole.  Then the answer is yes round the world.  Does this make a difference?

thanks

Around the bead in one big "swish" or in spirals?

Hi Vickie, a few bubbles are normal, it happens when you lay the next layer of clear beside the first, you can push them out if when you have finished laying on your clear start heating the bead either from left to right or from the centre to the left then centre to the right, your basically chasing them out with heat.

Thanks,

I am doing it mostly in two lines, so thinking about it, it is around the middle I'm getting the odd tiny bubble.  Do you sell with bubbles in?  I am a perfectionist, so to me I'm not happy with them at the moment.  But if it's normal I'll get used to it.

Thanks

Its a personal thing, I love bubbles in mine and a lot of people contact me and say I love the bubbles right in the middle, how do you do it?

The other method would be to make a giant clear paddle of glass and then lay that around the bead, so its like a sheet being laid on top

Thanks, Me thinks I'm too fussy! Learn to love the bubbles!  ;D

I don't like them. I second Tan, it is a personal thing.
I try to have those bubbles I cannot avoid on the edges rather than in the middle of the bead. So I make 3 lines, starting with a really big one in the middle, trying to cover as much of the bead as I can. I have to melt at least as much glass for this as the bead is big at that moment. Then I add clear to the edges of the clear I applied. On top of the clear, not on the uncovered bead. I carefully heat these "shoulders" and push them with some tool to the mandrel, thus covering the rest of the bead. Almost no bubbles this way.

Caroline

it is a personal thing but i encase the same way you do and after a while the bubbles get less and less, it's just practice

Thanks everyone! ;D

Think I'll try the couple of ways suggested and see what works for me best.
