Door knobs

I fancy having a go at a doorknob or two. Having had a look at Zoozii's collection (and a good chuckle at the endless innuendo..."everyone needs a knob in their house...") I don't feel any the wiser about the best way to do this or whether I really need a special press (could I wrap glass round a mandrel and flatten the end in a lentil press?)
Anyone able to help?!

I think someone did a tutorial for this in one of the bead mags - Beads and Beyond? You do it on a special mandrel at the end I think? and then there are screws that fit directly into it?
