Richard

I have been feeling a bit fed up over the past couple of days and I thought I would spend sometime on the www looking for inspiration.

I discovered 2 things:

1. My work pretty good considering how long I have been doing this (even if I do say so myself)!

2. Satake Glass looks very interesting and it creates some fantastic effects.

Since I started I have used effetre and not looked at any alternatives, Satake glass caught my attention because of the patterns it can create.

Does anyone know if:

There is A UK distributor of Stake Glass?

Am I right in saying it is similar to Soda Lime glass?

If Soda Lime glass is similar, who is the best supplier?

I really apprieciate your help.

Thanks

Billie

There are a few thread on Satake glass if you do a search.  This one might be of interest...

I just want to point out that satake is much softer glass (ca. COE 120, if I remember correctly)

Funny really I remembered to do a search after I typed the post!

Apologies if I am going old ground again, but things might have changed.

I bought a book called Tonbo Dama. It's mostly in japanese, but it has good pictures and some quite nice tutorials that I haven't seen elsewhere. For instance this incredible rose-murrini.

All works in that book are made with satake.

You get different effects with Satake because it's so soft, it flows more than other glass, but you will be able to do some of it with your ordinary glass. You might find your torch is too hot, I've heard it's best on a HH.

Most soft glass is soda lime, as opposed to boro. I think leaded isn't soda lime? And you get leaded Satake, which doesn't mix with the soda lime Satake.

Hi Richard. I have somehow got a spare copy of 'The Flow' Japanese special issue from spring 2007 - quite a bit about Satake glass (page 69) & some great eye candy, plus a few tutorials. If you'd like it PM me your address & I'll put it in the post  ;D
