Silver Leaf

Hi Guys

I have been playing around with silver leaf and am struggling with the burnishing off technique.  I seem to be able to burnish off some of the silver but at the ends, near the mandrel, it doesn't seem to burnish off as much as I want it too.  I then come to encase it and struggle with completely covering this excess silver near the holes (this is even when I've "pushed" the glass as near to the holes as possible). 

Any suggestions?

you dont burnish off, you burnish it on. Are you rolling the bead over the leaf then really rubbing it on so its all smoothed out?

Try and cut just a strip the width of the bead, its easier to cut if you keep it between the sheets of paper

DOH!!  Yes, I am burnishing on using using my large tweezers.  I do cut it to fit the bead but I don't like it too close to the holes.  Maybe I should just push the silver on where I want it and not wrap the bead in it too much?!

Just dont burnish it where you dont want it - it should melt off when you pop it back into the flame.

your on the right track missus, like our Claire said just make it stick where you want it to, anything that isnt stuck down will burn off

I always keep each of the ends in the flame a little longer to make sure it's burnt off. You can usually see fairly easily
