Up till now I have been just using my diddys, but have been using quite a bit of black recently and it isn't good!  I wondered if these would be OK (says they are 4's?).  I need fit overs cos I am so blind!!!!

Be interested in feedback on this as I need to sort something out and can't afford US prices!  Thanks :)

Hi,
Certainly not, Borosilicate safety glasses are a totally different lens and you need to make sure you buy the correct one rather than just welders specs.

Best wishes ,

Hi, check out Aura Visual Concepts for proper boro lenses. They are US but they are the best lens on the market and you only have one pair of eyes.

I read about the options, and decided to protect my fading vision with Green Ace 3 fit-overs for boro. I got them from Philips: http://www.phillips-safety.com/glassworking/glassworking-eyewear/shop-by-glass-filter/green-ace-ir-3.html?p=2
They are great and were on sale when I got them, but I got stung for postage and customs charges.

It may be cheaper to get them from Gunnar Haag - I didn't think of this till too late!

I must say it's great to be able to work as long as you like and not feel like your eyeballs have been lightly fried  :)

Thanks, forgot about Gunnar, will have a look.  Yes my poor eyes, no more black until I get this sorted (and the asian white does it too!).

Hi Lotti,  I wouldn't work with any boro without proper eye protection, it's not worth the risk.  Janet

I was lucky as I got mine in the sale from the US so didn't work out too bad and I didn't want to risk my eyes so swallowed the cost.

Martin - with more people doing Boro now and wanting to try, is this something you are looking to stock?

I've tried the phillips shade 3 and 5, it felt like they were only filtering 50% of the sodium flare.

Hi ,
Yes we will be restocking the boro glasses sooner rather than later . We had both economy and screens in boro many years ago but there was little demand all that time ago so we will get them again .

Best wishes ,

No I know, and been meaning to sort something out for ages, I just don't have the funds at the moment!  Seem to have lost my mojo with boro at the moment so will have to go on the back burner for a bit anyway and then I can save up for some.  Bearing in mind that there are so many boro workers now in the UK it's a shame someone doesn't sell them here!

Sorry, cross posted.  Good, thank you.  If you are going to get them in sooner rather than later I shall wait then and go back to soda lime for a bit.  The whole thing is confusing as I saw on a post from a few years back people suggesting welders shades which was why I looked at those other things.

Hi ,
They are ordered and should be here sometime next week.

That's great news for people wanting to try boro or just starting out. Thanks Martin.

Sundance Glass have a page of general info on this subject:
http://www.sundanceglass.com/didymiumsr.htm

They seem to think that welders shades over diddys are an option; but of course if you wear prescription specs then you'd be wearing 3 pairs together! :o

The NIOSH report (see link on the Sundance page) says the biggest risk is from infra red radiation, and that's the one standard diddys don't protect you from.
