I think I'm about to ask something really obvious. :D

I've bought some safety pickle powder, have read the instructions and will be putting the made-up pickle into a Pyrex container to use it, probably in a slow cooker acting as a bain marie.

When I've used it I'll need to store it. Can I use a plastic container of some sort? Thinking it would be easier to find something in plastic that has a screw on top.

When I did silver work I mixed the pickle up and kept it in the largest size of Helman's mayonnaise jar, which had a wide enough opening to let me drop things in and fish them out with plastic tweezers. I just screwed the lid on when I was finished. When I wanted to use it I sat it in a pyrex bowl of warm water. It lasted a very long time.

Luckily I love mayo as the jars have all sorts of uses in crafts.  ;D

I prefer a plastic jar to one with a metal lid as there is the risk over time of the lid rusting. I also like to mix smaller quantities as I am very clumsy and have been known to knock things over and there is less to mop up afterwards. Pretty much any plastic will be ok to use with the pickle.

Hi,

I use dilute sulphuric acid to pickle silver which is kept in a slow cooker. I just store it in the slow cooker with the lid on. It is advisable to use some sort of ventilation if you are heating the pickle as it will give of vapour. I use the same ventilation for my torch and the pickle. Works fine.

Thanks for the help, everyone. I found a 500ml plastic container with a lid, so I have pickle pickling away even as we speak.

Wonder whether I'll be brave enough to fill and fire up my little soldering torch soon :D
