What carat gold do I need to try fuming?

I fancy having a go at gold fuming and just wondered what carat the gold has to be.  Thanks for any help with this.

I bought some 24crt casting grain and that seems to work well, but be sat down when you get the price.

I did wonder if the gold leaf might do it.  Thanks everyone will have a play around with the gold leaf I have and then look into the casting grains.  ;D ;D ;D

22 or 24 will work just as well - with 22 you will end up with a little crust on your gold after a while, but it doesn't seem to affect the fume. I bought 1 gm of 22ct casting grain about 2 years ago, so it's not that expensive - as long as you keep it on your fuming rod, that is....    ::)

:D :D :D :D Glad that's not just me! Now I remember why I needed to tidy my bench, to find the last bit of gold I dropped !  :o :o :o I have also read that 22 or 23 is better for boro as the silver helps it to 'stick,' I've found that fuming with silver than gold helped, but I don't think it's such an issue for soft glass.
