I am very tempted by the offer Zoozii's have today of 15% off the straight sided lentil press but would appreciate some advice - I have never used presses so it is a lot of money to commit. I can find it difficult to get the amount of glass right for rollers, will I be the same with a press?

Madam Steph

It's a tad easier with a press (I think cos it's more often a little larger).

Make yourself a cylinder just slightly shorter than the width of the lentil press cavity.

I lay down the glass onto this to make an olive shape and then twirl mandrel into the cavity. If it still looks like it needs a lot more, add glass little by little, twirl again to test and if it looks more near it, press.
You can then see where you need to add the glass. I always keep a butter knife handy to 'edge' the glass along to where it's needed before adding more glass.

Hi Mary

I'd say for a lentil a stright sided one would be easier for you - if you buy from outside the EU be warned that for anything over £15 in value you will have to pay import duty + handling see (Royal Mail is £8). Tuffnells sell zoozii presses or you could try http://www.perlenpresse.de/epages/63000406.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/63000406/Products/25_2

or http://www.beadpress.nl/stempelwinkel/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=16

Using a press does take practise but it does help to produce a consistent size.

Hope that helps!

Thank you Linda and Trudi for your advice. I think for now I will wait, maybe try to have a play with a press then probably look at Perlenpresse.
