Hi everyone
Finally I'm about to set up my HH on bulk but can't afford the kit from martins so am getting the parts from ebay etc. I can't seem to find work out if its ok to use the 8mm propane hosing ?? as there seems to be a few different sizes available. I've found the 4 bar regulator, HH adapter and quick release couplings. Not sure if I really need the flashback arrestor as well but was going to get one to be on the safe side. So the next question is after attaching the regulator to the tank, do I next put flashback arrestor on, then the quick release couplings, then obviously the HH adaptor to the torch. I was going to attach them all with the lemon clips as it seems like the jubilee clips might not be so safe ?? And should I have a certain amount of hose between all my connections or does that not matter?? I am planning on working in my upstairs bedroom then taking tank out after each session as OH thinks we'll die in our sleep if its left in doors !! Was planning about 2 or 3 metres of hose as it'll be just to the side of my desk. Sorry for being so blonde and asking so many silly questions but I've read and re-read so much on here now that my brain is now doing somersaults !!

Thanks

not sure what size my hose is, doesn't say on it, just high pressure lpg. so sorry can't help on that one. I also don't use quick release.

But my tank is right under my desk I have about 2 metres of hosing tucked at the back of the tank because 1. I have to move the tank out to get the regulator off when I change it and 2. it's handy to have that extra length because if you spring a leak you can cut off the offending bit and reset it up. without having to go and buy more hose. You also don't want a tight hose because it is too short.
I use jubliee clips, not had any trouble with them in 3 years, lemon clips are better though and if you have a paranoid hubby then they are probably the best option.

connection is regulator on tank, flashback arrestor on regulator and then hose hose connects onto the bulk adaptor which is screwed into the hot head.

remember though propane sinks if you have a leak, so if it leaks upstairs it will travel downstairs and sit at ground level unless it has somewhere to disperse to.

tuffnells supply 6mm hosing so that is what I have and the set up is exactly as scarlett has written except I inserted the quick release ablout 1 foot from flash back so that there is a bit of hose to hold when disconnecting but not enough to drag on the floor from the top of the tank.
don't forget to do everything up tight and check for leaks (I used washing up liquid) I needed to buy a massive spanner to tighten mine onto the tank because the nut on the regulator is smaller than most propane connections.
have fun

Not sure of the size of the hose - I just took my regulator into the local Calor Gas shop and asked for 5 metres of hose for it.  A good plumbing shop may be able to help as well if you have one nearby.

I just took the whole lot to the local gas shop and he did it all for me!  If you get stuck, you might want to try that  ;D

Hello Jane

You seem to have the info on what goes where I just wanted to make sure you got the flashback thing.  It's what stops the fire from travelling along the hose to the gas cannister and igniting the gas.  When I first got my bulk set up I tried very hard to do it cheaper but couldn't.  I went into the gas shop where a lady tried very hard to help me but (and it was a few years ago) the flashback bit was so expensive that it meant I couldn't do it cheaper than Tuffnells.

I hope you get yourself set up.

I did mine myself, and the whole lot, including HH adapter, and with quick release valves, came to about £40. I still use the same setup for my cricket, and swap my other torches (sievert, orca and little torch) on as necessary with the quick releases.

Thanks everyone for your replies. It looks like you can get most of the kit for about £45 so it does work out cheaper although its more hassle as well but I'm hoping to put it all together myself .....then gonna run for the hills when I first light the torch !!! LOL it seems so scary going onto bulk but I'm sure its just me being a wimp really, once its done, I'll be fine  ;D I'll put the ebay links on here and if the parts look wrong, maybe you can let me know please ??

This is the hose with the quick release couplings already attached which is another option

and I was going to get the flashback arrestor that Mizgeorge has said.
Would love to know your thoughts folks and thanks so much for trying to help me with it all  :D

Hi

Where did you get your HH adaptor from? I'm pricing up the bulk kit at the mo, just seeing where the best places for supplies is :)

Thanks x

Emerald

I got mine from Hamiltons www.gasproducts.co.uk/acatalog/Rothenberger_Super_Fire_Blow_Torch_Hose_Adaptor but they don't do the regulator and hose as cheap as that one on eBay so might be worth looking on there for that to, there prices seem to have gone up quite a bit I remember   paying £8.00Ish  for this last year
