Can a regulator suddenly go up the spout for no reason??

i have cleaned the torch its a hothead, the pipe off it blew through it. I have took the regulator off and turned on the tank and there is still gas in it i estimate a quarter tank. Then only bit I don't know how to clean is this bit

I switched it off like normal last night and bled the torch like usual. Then come to switch it on today and nada zilch. Can't hear any woosh or nothing from torch.
Does anyone else know what else it could be??

I have tried everything I can think of turning regulator up and down disconecting and re conecting. There is definitely gas left in the tank but I will take it to the shop tomorrow and get a new tank see if that works  :-\ worth a go.

thanks for replying

There is a chance that the regulator has failed but it would be unlikely. They are designed for welding shop use and are therfore very robust.

A possibility is the flame arrestor (the cylinder on the regulator output). There are a few different types of flame arrestor. If it is heat sensitive or mechanical then it will seal the gas flow if triggered. Some cannot be re-set. (The arrestor it is more likely to be a metal gauze type which wont affect the gas flow.)

p.s. To test your bottle crack the valve open SLOWLY outside. To check the level in the bottle pick it up and shake it, the gas inside is liquid.

Do you have a flame arrestor?

If it's got a hole, it's a bead !

I Think Vickie got this sorted after talking to Martin.

The flame arrestor is the tube with silver sticker directly connected to the regulator shown in the photo.

Do you have a flame arrestor?

Hi after buying a new flash back arrestor it still didn't work. So I spoke to martin and he sorted it all out for me and I was up and running in no time :) I also upgraded to a mega minor and oxycon at the same time  ::) as you do hehe

How are you finding the mega minor? I was very disapointed with mine, flame less defined and mixture hard to judge...

I love it I had a bit of a fiddle with the knobs  ;D with a bit of help from Les and Claire on fb I managed to work it out.

I had to relearn how to do some of the techniques I learnt on the hot head and also realising not to keep the rod in the flame as long as I did in the hot head or I got boiled glass lmfao.

I love it I am glad I decided to go with that instead of the bobcat.
