In what order do you sort your glass

ok this weekend I wrote every colour glass , type and next year I will make each bead in each colour and file that with the descriptions as well.

The fact I still have maybe 2 or 3 more orders of glass coming does not matter   I will file them as well.

What I would like to know is I have mixed all the 104 coe types together but put them in colour order ( all the green together , blues etc ) . But how do you store yours ?

By type , by name Effetre etc, by colour or just thrown in like a lucky dip . As I am waiting for a larger shed than the last one . I am wanting this to be right so any ideas that I may not have thought of would help. Already thought of a glitter ball in there ( husband and his family really do think I have lost the plot )

Well I've sprted mine my manufacturer, but I recently saw Colette's and her's was sorted by colour which looks really nice!

Mine is like yours, by colour, but I'm considering changing that as I get better storage, so probably by manufacturer, then in the same-ish colour order.  I feel it's kind of impossible to keep up at the moment

I have all my compatible glass by colour as I find it much easier that way for working with and also means i use colours that i would not necessarily look at otherwise. I have my DH glass separate.

When planning your storage (if you are as ocd as me about it) its worth leavinga few gaps in places for when manufacturers bring out new colours...saves a lot of faffing moving things about.

I have mine sorted by colour too, as it's all 104.

I would love to take the time to do samples and include notes on each colour and label every rod, but it hasn't happened yet - I'm always too impatient to light the torch!!!

i sort mine by coe, then make, then colour, I have all the transparent glass on one side from clear to dark and the same with colours on the other side.  Separate shelf for silver and other special glasses, tubs for twisties etc.     Hmmm....bit OCD sounding me thinks.

Mine are in kilner jars in colours, red, blue, green, purple etc.  They are all 104 coe but a mixture of manufacturers, although each rod is labelled individually.

I keep my DH glass separate from the other stuff, and this is in labelled jars, dependent upon which type it is.

I have my 104 glass like so...big long box for effetre transparents,all individual colours in bundles (I use the 'really useful boxes' from staples, the big ones are the ones they sell for wrapping paper, and they often have them on 3 for 2) box for effetre opaques, small box for DH and other reduction glass, mid size box for CIM, mid size box for reichenbach. (then have further boxes for other COEs and a small bathroom cabinet for bullseye)
the boxes live on shelves.

I also have a small rack next to my desk where clear, white and several other colours I use alot live, so they're handy (my ASK lives here too cause its longer and I didn't have somewhere to put it!)

(this is not to mention all the jars I have on my desk of half used rods, stringers and one for the super specials that I only have one rod of and cant get any more)

however...I'm getting a new studio, so will be custom building storage (possibly involving plastic pipe) and need to decide what's working best for me! needless to say there's often frantic rummaging through boxes, punctuated by going back to torch to warm up a bead! this bit, not working so well!

um...organised? I think not.

I find that grouping by make helps me know where to look for a particular colour, because that's what I remember about them, though I do think that if I make a pipe system they will be organised by colour too.

I label all my rods when i buy them, then i store them in colour (DH is seperate) all is ceo 104 so not much confusion yet allthough i still write make, product number, colour and indevidual price per rod on the sticker

Mine's all 104 too, but I have the magic/mystic colours on one row, along with stringers and other 'too expensive to play withy' colours and DH, then after that it's a confused rainbow of colours in each piece of tubing. Perhaps when it warms up and Martin's delivery arrives I'll resort.  

Oh, and bits, pieces and anything else too short to loose in tubing is in those £1 rotating brush stands they had in The Works in the summer.

All my 104 is in rainbow order and I've started to label all my rods with name and number (and price if it's pricey!) - I get confuddled if I don't . Silver glass and special glass (eg intense black, opal yellow) is in jars on the worktop. I label by hand too and it is starting to take too long, as I melt more glass now...do you have any tips for printing labels, Trudi?

I store mine en manufacturer and then I have started sorting in part number order.  I figured it would make it easier when it came to ordering more stock.

Do you guys have access?  I would be happy to send my access database that use,  I'll take out all the rubbish and give you instructions on how to use?  (I think I would have gone mad if I labelled everything by hand!!)
