Good plan! I've left marbles that needed more work in a cold kiln (after they had already been annealed) and let them warm up with the kiln, then about an hour later take them out and warm them up at the top of the flame gently (and sitting well back just in case!  ) and normally I can then rework them. Mostly I end up having to take out dents where I'd put them too warm into the kiln and ended up flattening one side!

There's me reading the title of this thread looking for a glass bottom!

Good idea about warming up over top of flame, best way to go. Bring it gently down through flame and continue working.
