Oxygen useage.

Can anyone help me with expectations of how long a full oxygen tank will last me. I am on the brink of upgrading my dreaded hothead to a minor burner and so have to go to duel fuel. 8.5kg of propane lasts me around 2.3 months at the moment and I was wondering how often I will be refilling an oxygen tank.

Huge variables here. use a guage to test. Set flame to one you will use most, mark guage and leave flame on hour, check guage, note difference and if you also not total capacity, hey presto, volume used actual and estimated resluts. Doubt if two people use identical amount of oxy. Handy to have spare but of course appreciate costs. A cylinder Y size lasts me a week if I am lucky but I tend to work large at times and small at other times?

I would say a tank (don't know the weight but they are about 4-5 feet high) lasts me about 3-4 weeks on a minor whereas the 19kg propane lasts for around 4-5 months! Basically expect to use MUCH more oxy than propane

It's much more cost effective to invest in an oxygen or even two

Yikes! This is what I was starting to suspect. Upgrading my torch is going to be expensive me thinks. Perhaps I should be thinking of it as upgrading to an Oxycon with a torch and some propane to go with it. DH is going to have a fit!  , but I don't think I can take much more of the HH.

I agree with Kaz too, I'm only on tanked oxy because I steal it off my DH farm

I'm hoping/trying to save for the same Betty.
My nephews been unwell with cluster headaches and the doc said he might have to get    oxygen tanks ......... can anyone guess where my thoughts headed to or am I very baaaaaad!

Ooooooo, I hope he is OK. Headaches are the pits. I am sure that O2 will help though, and it isn't your fault, a quite natural reaction. Definitely worth him trying O2.
