It's a rod rolled in on itself - a visual artist came to Open Studios and got all intrigued by the possibilities of projecting light and images through glass. Next stop: Three rods twisted within themselves, then rolled to a coil like this one

It would be interesting to put three coloured rods into a tube, heat and twist it and then roll that round like a gloucester sausage...
