Kiln surprise!

If my opalinos (and CiM kryptonite) have gone more opaque than they were before I annealed them, does that mean they got too hot? They aren't really opal anymore, and the Effetre opalinos have gone slightly curdled round the middles.

I had a good surprise too - my best silver brown spacer has gone a beautiful iridescent purple that is going to be totally impossible to photograph!

I've had this with all the Cim opals - it's really disappointing. I assume it is something to do with the annealing temperature, check out Cim's website to see what temperature they recommend.

I would, but I can't be bothered with faffing around with the kiln for just a couple of colours!

I tried turning my cube down to 510 rather than 520. The yellow opalino seems happier, I'm yet to see how the kryptonite has come out. The thing that confuses me is that don't halong bay and peacock green and so on need to be annealed *hotter* not colder?

The reason I'm assuming my kiln was too hot is that some of my batch annealed beads were very slightly stuck together, particularly the ones at the back. They came apart fine, with only the occasional kiss mark, but that's definitely a sign of too hot. No rubino, either, which I know is one that can do that.

I did a combined batch + garage yesterday. I had a kryptonite lentil nearest the front of the kiln and it was fine. There was a rose opalino one next to it that was also fine, and another one just slightly further in that went opaque. Interesting!

Oh, and CiM rose quartz was just fine, as was poison apple. Ghee went opaque and curdly like the yellow opalino. They were all further in on mandrels.

Someone did once tell me that the CiM colours have a lot of different annealing temperatures and this does put me off a bit.

It took about three days just to get the kiln programmed once
