Glass you love / Glass you hate

Well, short list from me as likes are Boro (no surprise there!) There are lots of boro colours which one minute I hate then love how they work.

Hate is easy, and I can't believe no-one else has mentioned it yet - Annice white (I think that's what it's called). I remember taking ages to gently warm it, finally so it didn't spit into frit, then the whole rod exploded leaving me holding a 2inch stub. I bet next time I move around the workshop I'm bound to find some more bits of it. Terriable stuff.

Love clear boro, pure as the driven glass. Blemish free, clean and refreshing.

ooh i quite like my effetre anice (its 208, right?) and i just got some vetro 208 and am worried its frit on a stick...!

I only recently tried Anice White after seeing Mindy's tutorial - and I warm it really really gently from high up in the flame, and to be honest it's been fine. Sometimes when I go to reuse it(in the same session) I'm a bit cocky and I try to warm it up faster a bit pops off - but really no worse than some other shocky colours to be fair. I do find that this stuff acts a bit more like a transparent and is easier to encase than other whites - and for the blossom beads it does blend better than using standard whites. I've not tried it for the reactions yet!

Perhaps I've been lucky with my batch - but try annealing a small rod next time you have your kiln on and then give it another go!

You may be over striking it if it looks a bit "liverish". Next time, heat it up strongly until clear, take it out of the flame, wait for about 30 secs and then waft around in the top of the flame until you see the colour start to form and then take it out.

Wow I am learning a lot from this thread - thank you everyone who has contributed so far    I've also noticed that the amazingly coloured "paddle" of Magic that is shown on various websites has successfully fooled loads of us into buying this glass - I'd love to find the person who made that paddle and bring them along to my torch and challenge them to get anything but dark bird poo from it  

The paddle that we use on our website was made by Teresa. We both made one at the same time. I got some reaction but not much where as Teresa got all kinds of colours from it and still does. The only thing that we do differently is I work with quiet a cool flame where as Teresa works very hot. She just heated it up into a ball and then squished it with cold mashers, flame polished and that was it.

I tried the shape then reheat to clear... but could only manage heat to orange and ended up with even more brown!

When my bead release broke while winding on the disk, it was a lovely ruby... 

Heheh - I really like my anise. But I was lucky and my rod isn't shocky at all. I just hope the 1/4kg I ordered is half as well behaved!

Not found any I particularly hate yet though I'm not to fond of transparent yet. Though Ivory doesn't like me 2 beads same session same time in flame ones mottled like mad the other is as crisp as the original rod. Go figure.

Waiting on getting a CiM and Rachenbacher pack so I can play with them
