Mould making Castalot... anyone tried it?

Hiya!

I was thinking of making some small pendant moulds to use with frit, and have found this to make the moulds with:

Before I take the plunge, have any of you tried it? Is it any good? Is it going to be suitable or should I look at trying a different material?

It works fine.  So does regular ceramic clay or liquid slip or investment mix (sand and pottery plaster).  Mold making isn't rocket science.  Unfortunately, what is really a very simple process has been needlessly complicated by some individuals that for whatever reason have presented it as something difficult and exotic.

I haven't tried this but I've used Hydo-cast before, which is another ready to go mold mix.  I make my own mix from plaster, flint and other bits and bobs depending on what I'm doing and always re-use old molds (ludo) too but I guess this stuff is an easy way to make a small amount of molds without having loads of refractory material around.  I buy most of my stuff in 25kg bags so in effect 50kg of a basic flint/plaster mix works out at about £30 for me.

Hmm, I've strayed slightly from the topic, but I hope you have fun making molds!  I love it and frequently spend weeks on creating them!
