Hello peeps.

I'm just after some advice. I am new to lampworking and like many have found MAPP gas quite expensive. I have recently started on my 3rd can of MAPP and now wanting to get bulk fuel (I refuse to buy more MAPP due to the cost!).

I have seen Tuffnell's bulk fuel kits, but wondering if there are any websites that sell similar kits?

Could anyone point me in the right direction!?!

Many Thanks

I second (or third that)! And Martin's very good at answering daft questions too.  :)

And you'll save loads of money by going bulk as well as quite a lot of frustration.

Yep! Having just gone bulk, all I can say (apart from whooopeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!) is go for it ;D

Some people went to a welding shop, but had a lot of hassle getting the right bits, and getting it all fitted together. It's a cheaper option if you know exactly what you're going for, and find a place that don't have the condescending "little woman" attitude. But it's worth the extra to get it all fitted properly, and know it's the right stuff.

Well, thanks for all of your replies. I have thought about it and taken you advice and put my order in for a 'duluxe' bulk kit from Tuffnell's.

Hours of fun lie ahead I feel!!!

Thanks for your help!

;D

OOOhh.. how exciting Marie !!!

Happy beading :)

I just set up my bulk kit yesterday and all I can say is 'Wow!'

It is a lot hotter and faster. I've boiled glass, burnt the release, nearly burnt myself several times, and I love it! I can now make twice as many beads per hour.   ;D

I've got mine too - just need to get the propane for it now - thought Dad had some but his bottle had a different fitting - I thought they'd be all the same. So I've left him with the kit and asked if he can pop down to BOC and get me something!!! Bless him - my dad has been really great helping me out - letting me take over one of his sheds (now a studio darling!) and clearing it all out for me!!

CAn't wait to get away from Mapp!

Hi - I went through seven cans of mapp in about a month before converting - I'm now into my 3rd month on the same propane bottle - Sooooo much cheaper, and no worries about freezing up, running out mid-bead, etc.

I bought the bits separately, from ebay, B&Q & local Calor specialist & just got the HH connector from Martin - I probably saved about £30, but my OH knew how to sort it - if it was just me I'd recommend buying the kit just for peace of mind.

Now I'm saving up for a 'proper' torch (except when Q is selling interesting glass... :D)
